According to Akaz, the Customs and Tax Authority, while explaining the clause number 73 of the law, said that "the authority is not obliged to return the wat received on the purchase here to the tourists coming to the kingdom."
According to the provisions of the law, one or more service providers should be appointed by the authority to receive the case of the tourists and demand the return of wat to the authority on their behalf. It will be the authority's responsibility to issue a list of institutions providing such services.
Clause 73 of the Act further states that 'Tourists who are not residents of GCC countries may submit their case to the designated service provider for refund of valued tax. These tourists must also prove that the goods they have purchased will not be used in the Kingdom or the GCC, but will be taken to their own countries.
The tourist must be present in the country while submitting the request for VAT refund. It will be the responsibility of the service provider to send the case to the authority after studying it thoroughly so that approval can be issued from there.
The authority further said that after receiving the case, in case of approval of refund of value added tax, the amount will be transferred to the same service provider through which the case was submitted. The Service Provider shall have the right to charge a fee as determined by it from the refund amount.
The authority shall have the right to reject the case received in whole or in part. In case of return of the case, the case will be forwarded to the concerned agent by whom the authority was submitted.
